How I Number Ancestors

You may have noticed, and questioned the two part number in front of an ancestor's name.
This is the numbering pattern I have used in our family tree.  John Hewitt Green is Generation (1-), the first part of the number. He is the father in this tree and his surname begins the tree (-1), the second part of the number.
Rules: All men are odd second numbers and all women are even second numbers, odd numbers are blue, even numbers are pink.  All Generation number count upward from John Green's surname.

Example: Generation 3-4 is (an even number and Pink) Minkler. Her mother is 4x2=8 in the 4th generation (even is pink) 4-8 Hopkins,  Her father is 1 less than her mother ((4x2=8)-1)=7 in the 4th generation, odd and blue, 4-7 Minkler.

This system allows the creation of a unique ancestor number for each of John Green's ancestors, as well as his wife's ancestors.  Also, it allows finding a forward number,  The mother's number divided by 2 yields the child's number.  The father's number, plus 1 then divided by 2 yields the same child's number..
